A Crime in Carnival

Un Robo en Carnaval

Kelly was excited. She was on holiday with her family in a fantastic place – Rio in Brazil. The hotel was wonderful. There was a swimming pool and a garden, and it was near the beach!

Kelly estaba entusiasmada. Estaba de vacaciones con su familia en una fantástico lugar – Río (de Janeiro) en Brasil. El hotel era maravilloso. Había una piscina y un jardín ¡y estaba cerca de la playa!

Kelly’s brother Steve was excited too. It was carnival time in Rio and that night there was a big party in the street. Everyone had wonderful clothes in different colours – green, blue, red, purple, and even gold and silver.

Steve, el hermano de Kelly, también estaba entusiasmado. Era temporada de carnaval en Río y esa noche había una gran fiesta en la calle. Todos vestían hermosas ropas de diferente color – verdes, azules, rojas, violetas, incluso doradas y plateadas.

Kelly and Steve wanted to go to the party but they didn’t have any carnival clothes.
“Let’s go to a shop and buy some costumes,” said Steve.
So they went out of the hotel and into the shopping centre.
All the shops had fantastic clothes. They went into a big shop.

Kelly y Steve querían ir a la fiesta pero no tenían vestuario para carnaval.
“Vayamos a alguna tienda a comprarnos los disfraces" dijo Steve.
Entonces salieron del hotel y se metieron en el centro comercial..
Todas las tiendas tenían ropa fabulosa. Entraron en una gran tienda.

Kelly put on a costume – there was a special jacket, a short skirt, a blue T-shirt, white boots and a cowboy hat. She looked in the mirror.
“Ha ha, you look terrible!” said Steve.

Kelly se probó un disfraz – era una chaqueta especial, una falda corta, una camiseta azul, botas blancas y un sombrero vaquero. Se miró en el espejo. “Ja ja, ¡te ves horrendal!” dijo Steve.

Steve put on a costume – a pair of red and yellow trousers, a green and red spotty shirt, blue shoes, a silly hat and a red nose.
“That’s good! You look like a clown!” said Kelly.

Steve se probó un disfraz – un par de pantalones rojos y amarillos, una camisa a lunares verdes y rojos, zapatos azules, un sombrero bobo y una nariz colorada. “¡Está bueno! ¡Pareces un payaso!” dijo Kelly.

Kelly bought a gold-coloured dress and silver shoes, and Steve bought a superman costume. Now they were ready for the party!

Kelly se compró un vestido dorado con zapatos plateados y Steve se compró un disfraz de Superman. ¡Ya estaban listos para la fiesta!

They went back to the hotel. When they arrived they saw a tall, elegant woman in a black dress. She was wearing diamonds on her fingers, on her shoes, on her clothes and in her hair.

Regresaron al hotel. Cuando llegaron observaron a una mujer alta, elegante en vestido negro. Llevaba diamantes en los dedos, en los zapatos en la ropa y en el pelo.

"Wow!" said Steve, "Look at her! Who is she?"
"That's Diana Diamond - the famous film star," said the manager.
"The diamonds are famous - they cost thousands of dollars!"

"¡Guau!" dijo Steve, "¡Mírala! ¿Quién es?"
"Es Diana Diamond - la famosa estrella de cine," dijo el gerente.
"Los diamantes son famosos - ¡cuestan miles de dólares!"

Kelly and Steve went to get ready for the party. At eight o'clock they went to the restaurant with their mum and dad to have dinner. They had steak, chips and salad, and then an enormous ice-cream.

Kelly y Steve fueron a preparse para la fiesta. A las 8 en punto fueron al restaurant con su mamá y su papá para cenar. Comieron bife, papas fritas y ensalada y luego un helado enorme.

Suddenly they heard someone screaming.
"Oh! My diamonds, my diamonds - they are gone! Gone!"
Diana Diamond ran into the room.
"My diamonds are stolen!" she screamed.

De pronto escucharon gritar a alguien.
"¡Oh! Mis diamantes, ¡mis diamantes - desaparecieron! ¡Desaparecieron!"
Diana Diamond entró corriendo al salón.
"¡Robaron mis diamantes!!" gritaba.

Kelly and Steve went out of the hotel. They saw a man running away with the diamonds. The man had a black cat costume. In the street there were thousands of people wearing colourful costumes. Everybody was dancing and singing. The music was very loud.

Kelly y Steve salieron del hotel. Vieron a un hombre que escapaba con los diamantes. El hombre llevaba un disfraz de gato negro. En la calle había miles de personas que vestían coloridos disfraces. Todos bailaban y cantaban. La música era muy fuerte.

"Quick!" shouted Kelly, "After him!"

"¡Rápido!" gritó Kelly, "¡Síganlo!"

Kelly and Steve ran after the black cat. It was difficult to see him because of the party in the street.
"There he is!" shouted Steve. "He's going towards the mountain!"
The black cat ran faster and faster. Kelly and Steve ran faster too.

Kelly y Steve corrieron tras el gato negro. Era difícil verlo debido a a fiesta en la calle.
"Ällí está!!" gritó Steve. "¡Va hacia la montaña!"
El gato negro corría cada vez más rápido. Kelly y Steve corrían rápido también.

Suddenly the black cat stopped. The man fell to the ground. Kelly and Steve sat on the man. The police arrived and took him away to prison. Kelly and Steve took the diamonds back to the hotel and gave them back to Diana Diamond.

De pronto el gato negro se detuvo. El hombre cayó al piso. Kelly y Steve se sentaron sobre el hombre. La policia llegó y lo llevó preso. Kelly y Steve llevaron los diamantes de regreso al hotel y se los devolvieron a Diana Diamond.

"Oh thank you, thank you," she said.
"My wonderful diamonds - I have them back again. You must come to my extra special carnival party on the roof of the hotel."

"Oh gracias, gracias," dijo.
"Mis maravillosos diamantes - Los tengo conmigo de nuevo. Tienen que venir a fiesta especial de carnaval en la terraza del hotel."

So they went to the carnival party and watched the fireworks from the roof of the hotel. It was the best carnival party ever!

Y así fueron a la fiesta de carnaval y miraron los fuegos artificiales desde la terraza del hotel. ¡Fue la mejor fiesta de carnaval que disfrutaron en su vida!
